This and every Memorial Day Weekend, we at Florz Flooring honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our Country. In honor of all who have served, we will be closed on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. We hope that you get to spend some time with Family and Friends, but remember to take a few moments to recognize our fallen Soldiers. Here is a brief history of Memorial Day:
Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, originated after the American Civil War to honor the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the war. It was officially proclaimed on May 5, 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, and was first observed on May 30, 1868.
After World War I, the holiday evolved to commemorate American military personnel who died in all wars. In 1971, Memorial Day was declared a national holiday to be celebrated on the last Monday in May, creating a three-day weekend for federal employees.
Memorial Day serves as a time to remember and honor the brave individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
